Wildcats finish 5th in Florida

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- Barton College held off a strong second round by Florida Southern to win the 2009 Queens Invitational at TPC Sawgrass' Dye's Valley course.

The ACU Wildcats -- who entered Tuesday's final round -- slipped to fifth place after shooting a final-round 296.  The Wildcats finished at 588 for the two rounds, 12 shots off the pace set by team champion Barton College, which shot back-to-back rounds of 288 to finish at 576.

Florida Southern bounced back from an opening-round 301 to shoot 280 on Tuesday and finish at 581.  Flagler College finished third at 586 (293-293) and Belmont Abbey finished fourth at 587 (292-295).

Cyril Bouniol was ACU's best finisher, firing a two-round total of 1-under-par 143 with rounds of 72 on Monday and 71 on Tuesday.  Freshman Alex Carpenter finished tied for 12th at 1-over-par 145 with rounds of 72-73.

Tyler Sheppard finished tied for 19th at 147 (74-73), while Adam Carpenter finished tied for 45th at 153 (74-79) and Kyle Dickerson finished 84th at 164 (79-85).

The Queens Invitational was the final tournament of the fall for the Wildcats, who recorded three top-five finishes in four tournaments.
