ABILENE -- ACU outscored Lubbock Christian 13-0 during a three-minute stretch early in the second half Friday night as the Wildcats cruised to an 81-61 win over LCU in a women's basketball exhibition game at Moody Coliseum.

The 20-point victory does not count in the won-loss record for the Wildcats, but it did serve as the season-opener for the Lady Chaps of the NAIA.

The Wildcats -- who never trailed in the game -- led by as many as 15 points in the first half before settling for a 41-31 halftime lead.  The Lady Chaps outscored ACU 6-2 to start the second half, trimming the lead to 43-37 with 18:08 left on a jumper by Severyn Smith.

But ACU responded by hitting five straight shots, including three 3-pointers, to pull away to a 56-37 lead with 15:34 to play.  Jamie Meyer got the 13-0 run started with a layup with 17:51 to play to push the lead to 45-37.

Courtney Laing hit the first of the 3-pointers in the run with 17:31 to play to make it a 48-37 Wildcat lead.  Jody Meyer hit a layup with 16:56 left to make it 50-37 before Jamie Meyer answered with another 3-pointer to make it 53-37 with 15:59 left in the game.  Kat Kundmueller capped the run with a 3-pointer at the 15:34 mark to push the lead to 56-37.

ACU's lead grew to 25 points with 12:04 to play when Kelsey Darby-Holson buried a 3-pointer to make it 65-40.  ACU head coach Shawna Lavender was able to play everyone on the roster, and the Wildcats' second-half lead never again dipped below 16 points.

Jamie Meyer led three Wildcats in double figures with 22 points, followed by Jody Meyer with 15 and Laing with 14.  Those three collected 23 rebounds as ACU's size advantage showed itself as the Wildcats out-rebounded the Lady Chaps, 44-34, and outscored them 36-14 in the paint.

ACU will be back in action next Monday (Nov. 9) in Dallas when it takes on SMU at 6 p.m. in another exhibition game at SMU's Moody Coliseum.  The Wildcats will get their regular seasons tarted Nov. 16 when they host St. Mary's at home.
