Meyer Leads ACU Past SEU 72-62

AUSTIN – A stellar second half from Jamie Meyer lifted the Wildcats (1-1) to their first victory of the young season Friday night against St. Edward's (0-2), 72-62 in the St. Edward's Shootout.

Meyer who was kept in check the first half was able to only manage two points. However in the second half Meyer found more open looks as she finished with a double-double adding 29 points and 16 rebounds.

The Wildcats led most of the first half, but could not shake the Hilltoppers (0-2) as they fought back to take their first lead with 2:46 left in the half. Both teams traded baskets down the stretch until freshmen Emily Miller put back a miss by Joanna Harner with 17 seconds left to give the Wildcats a 27-25 lead at the half.

ACU would never trail in the second half opening with an 8-0 run to start the period capped by a layup from Autumn Whitaker giving the Wildcats a 33-25 lead.

Senior guard Kat Kundmueller paced the Wildcats with 13 assists and five rebounds as they only committed 14 turnovers. ACU was also able to take advantage of 15 SEU turnovers leading to 17 points.

Jody Meyer also recorded a double-double, something the sisters only did once last season as she added 17 points and 11 rebounds of her own.

Whitaker who started for an injured Courtney Laing was solid shooting 100% from the field finishing with seven points. Miller came off the bench and helped add size for the Wildcats as she added five points and four rebounds.

Sophia Holguin led the Hilltoppers with 15points.
