ABILENE – ACU senior left offensive tackle Tony Washington has been named to the Daktronics and the American Football Coaches' Association NCAA Division II all-America teams..
Washington, a 6-7, 305-pound senior from New Orleans, was voted first team on both squads. The Daktronics team is voted on by the nation's college sports information directors, while the AFCA team is voted on by the nation's coaches.
Sophomore defensive end Aston Whiteside was voted second team all-America on the Daktronics team.
The AFCA team allows just one player per team on its squad, and Washington was the ACU representative on the team. West Texas A&M senior defensive end Eugene Sims is the only other LSC player on the AFCA team.
Earlier this season, Washington was voted the LSC South Division Offensive Lineman of the Year for the second straight season. He was also voted first team NCAA Division II Super Region Four on the Daktronics team selected by the region's Sports Information Directors.
A finalist for the 2009 Gene Upshaw Award, Washington has already accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game in Orlando, Fla.
Whiteside – a first team all-LSC South Division selection in 2009 – was among NCAA Division II leaders in both sacks (9.5) and tackles for loss (14.5) in 2009. He was the LSC South Division Pre-Season Defensive Player of the Year entering the 2009 season after an all-conference selection as a freshman in 2008.
