SAN ANGELO -- The ACU Wildcats' struggles continued Saturday night as they dropped their third straight game -- and fourth in their last five -- as they fell, 82-58, to the high-flying Angelo State Rams at the Junell Center.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 7-11 overall and 0-3 in the Lone Star Conference South Division, while the Rams -- who finished the night with at least half a dozen dunks and five blocked shots -- improved to 10-8 and 2-2.
ACU will return to action Wednesday in Stephenville when the Wildcats take on Tarleton State in another LSC South Division contest at 8 p.m. ACU has lost 13 straight games in Stephenville dating back to the 1994-95 season and hasn't won in Wisdom Gym since a 77-54 win over the Texans in December 1993.
Tarleton State will enter Wednesday's game alone in first place in the LSC South at 15-3 overall and 3-0 in the division after a 69-56 win Saturday at West Texas A&M.
The Wildcats never got into a rhythm Saturday night, hitting just 18 of 58 shots from the field (31.0 percent) and after sprinting out to an early 7-2 lead were never really in the ballgame. The Rams answered that run with a 9-0 run of their own and they never trailed after gaining the lead.
ACU committed 21turnovers and was just 1 of 10 from 3-point range, while Angelo State finished 5 of 16 from beyond the arc.
Giordan Cole led the Wildcats with 11 points, while
Eddie Thompson had 10 for ACU. LaMarshall Corbett -- the leading scorer in the LSC at 23.9 points per game -- led alol scorers with 19 points.
