Five players were voted first team – including four on offense – while five players were voted to the second team.
Junior defensive end
Aston Whiteside – a first team Don Hansen all-region selection in 2009 – was a repeat first team selection in 2010. Whiteside was voted the LSC South Division Defensive Lineman of the Year for the second straight season, helping the Wildcats to their second straight LSC title in the last three seasons.
The Wildcats had four first team selections in 2010 in senior wide receiver
Edmund Gates, senior fullback
Emery Dudensing, senior right tackle
Trevis Turner and junior center
Matt Webber.
Second team selections for the Wildcats were senior linebacker
Kevin Washington, senior defensive end
Fred Thompson, senior defensive tackle
Marvin Jones, junior tight end
Ben Gibbs and sophomore quarterback
Mitchell Gale.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published
Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II all-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II all-region squads in 2003.
The first-team and second-team all-region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2010 Don Hansen NCAA Division II all-America team will be named in January.
