ABILENE – Candice Miller delivered a two out single down the left field line scoring Melissa Mendoza giving the Wildcats the walk-off win Sunday afternoon in the final game of the CBS Insurance Classic at Wells Field. ACU improves to 5-6 on the season as they defeated Henderson State 2-1 in the final game of the round robin tournament.
Henderson State got on the board first when Katey Gorsage homered down the left field line in the top of the second inning. However that was all the Lady Reddies could muster as freshmen Shelby Hall went the distance for her second win of the season. Hall, who has had some tough luck losses including a near perfect game, scattered seven hits over seven innings and striking out five.
Mendoza tied the game in the third inning when she singled to left scoring Caitlin Nabors. Nabors reached after laying down a good bunt down the third base line. Mendoza was 2 for 3 on the day and leads the Wildcats hitting at a .512 clip.
The Wildcats game on Tuesday has been rescheduled for Thursday evening; however, a time has yet to be set. ACU will try to get back over .500 when they host Midwestern State in a doubleheader at Wells Field.
