DURANT, Okla. – On the final day of the Lone Star Conference Crossover ACU split with Midwestern and Northeastern to finish 3-3 on the weekend. The Wildcats dropped their third consecutive game to the Mustangs, 4-3 before taking an 8-4 win over the Riverhawks Sunday at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex.
Game one recap
On the final day of the Lone Star Conference Crossover ACU opened with their ninth one-run loss of the season against Midwestern State, 4-3. It was the fourth loss to the Mustangs this season after splitting a pair in Abilene before getting swept in Wichita Falls.
A three run first inning gave the Mustangs an early lead, but ACU would respond with three runs in the top half of the second. Both teams would battle in a 3-3 tie until Midwestern scored the eventual game winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Megan Chartier led off with a single and would work her way to third on a stolen base and a ground out. Natalie Rodriguez followed with a one out single to center giving Midwestern the one run lead. ACU would go down in order in the seventh for their third straight loss to the Mustangs.
Andi Anti drew a one out walk and moved to third on an Ashley Peterson double. The following hitter, Caitlin Nabors looped a single to left scoring Anti for the Wildcats first run.
Stephanie Tingle would tie the game on her only hit driving a full count to left field.
ACU starter Shelby Hall battled in a tough loss for her 10th complete game of the season. Hall went six innings scattering eight hits while giving up four runs all of which were earned.
Game two recap
ACU jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the third on a single from Missy Mendoza scoring Shawna Barrow. Barrow reached on a single and stole second to get into scoring position before Mendoza drove her home for her only RBI of the game.
The Wildcats would give up the lead momentarily as the Riverhawks scored two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. However ACU would blow the game open in the top half of the sixth batting around once as they scored five runs on six hits.
A pair of walks would give ACU base runners for Candice Miller who singled driving in pinch runners Bransford and Ramirez. Miller would score on Barrow's first RBI a single up the middle. Barrow finished the second game 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Barrow and Tingle would score later in the inning on a double steal and two errors from Northeastern giving ACU a 6-3 lead.
Barrow added a pair of insurance runs for the Wildcats on a single to left. Miller and Nabors rolled into home as Miller reached on a fielder's choice and Nabors laid down a bunt single.
The Wildcats improved to 12-18 on the season as they finished the weekend 3-3. ACU returns to action Wednesday for a mid-week contest with Texas A&M-International. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
