ACU Finishes First at Red River

THACKERVILLE, OK – The 24th ranked Wildcat golf team took home their first tournament victory of the season at the Red River Intercollegiate after rain forced the opening round to be finished Tuesday morning. Freshmen Alex Carpenter picked up his first tournament win of the spring in a playoff at the WinStar Golf Course.

Carpenter and Mitch Molen of Midwestern State both finished with a 144 to finish even for the tournament, but was able to hold off Molen in the playoff. After being forced to finish his first round Tuesday morning Alex Carpenter had a solid day finishing his two rounds with a 71 and 73. His first tournament victory came during the fall season at the Territory Classic in Duncan, Oklahoma.

ACU placed three golfers in the top 11 as, brother and freshmen Adam Carpenter finished tied for third with a 147 (+3) in the two day event. Local product Kyle Dickerson finished with his fellow freshmen in a tie for ninth as senior Cyril Bouniol finished in a tie for 11th. Dickerson fired a second round 74 to find his way in the top 1o with a 151 (+7) as Bounil shot a +8, 152.

Tyler Sheppard finished as the fifth golfer for ACU as was tied for 28th after shooting a 157 over the two rounds.

Host Cameron University took runner-up honors as Midwestern State finished close behind in third. St. Edward's came in fourth as Central Oklahoma rounded out the top five team finishers.

The Wildcats will return to the course on Sunday at the UST Texas Intercollegiate hosted by Texas Wesleyan. The two day tournament in Fort Worth will be held at Hawks Creek Country Club with the first round set to tee off on Sunday morning.
