ABILENE -- For the second straight week, the ACU Wildcats are ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division II South Central Region baseball rankings, just behind top-ranked Central Missouri.
The Mules (34-5) have been the region's top-ranked team in both polls with ACU and defending regional champion Emporia State (Kan.) at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. St. Mary's moves into the top six at No. 4 this week, followed by No. 5 Southeastern Oklahoma State and No. 6 Incarnate Word.
Nebraska-Omaha is No. 7 in the poll with Texas-Permian Basin – which lost to ACU 8-3 on Tuesday in Abilene – checking in at No. 8.
The top six teams in the region on May 9 will be invited to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament. Three teams – the champions of the Lone Star Conference, Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association and Heartland Conference – will earn automatic bids to the tournament leaving three at-large bids available.
The Wildcats will close out the regular season this weekend with a four-game series against Tarleton State. Friday's doubleheader is set to start at 3:05 p.m. with Saturday's doubleheader also set for a 3:05 p.m. start. ACU will host the LSC Baseball Championship Tournament next week (May 1-4) at Crutcher Scott Field.
