Wildcats rally to win at UCO

EDMOND, Okla. -- ACU shot a final-round 288 to rally for the team championship in the UCO/KickingBird Golf Classic Tuesday.

The Wildcats trailed Cameron by four shots entering the final 18 holes, but ACU's 288 gave the Wildcats an 847 total and a six-stroke victory over the runner-up Aggies.  Tournament host Central Oklahoma finished third in the 17-team tournament at 855 after a closing 293.

CU's Jason Timmis took individual honors, firing a final-round 70 to finish the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a five-under-par 205 total, two shots ahead of ACU's Cyril Bouniol.

The Wildcats' depth showed up Tuesday as they had four golfers finish in the top 16, led by Bouniol's second-place finish.  Tyler Sheppard fired the tournament's only sub-par round on Tuesday as he shot a 2-under-par 68 to finish fifth at 212 (71-73-68).

Freshman brothers Alex and Adam Carpenter finished tied for 12th and 16th, respectively, in the individual standings.  Alex Carpenter shot rounds of 66-77-73 to finish at 6-over-par 216, while Adam Carpenter shot rounds of 70-72-75 to finish at 7-over-par 217.

The Wildcats will be off until April 19-20 when they play in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament at the WinStar Golf Course in Thackerville, Okla.  Earlier this spring the Wildcats won the team championship at the Red River Intercollegiate at WinStar, firing a two-round total of 593.
