Oliver a finalist for top honor


ABILENE – ACU junior outfielder Aaron Oliver has been named one of the 35 national finalists for the Tino Martinez Award, which is awarded to the ping!Baseball NCAA Division II Baseball Player of the Year.


Oliver – the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and the LSC Baseball Championship Tournament MVP – is one of six players from the South Central Region to be chosen as a finalist.


Other players from the region are Central Missouri standouts Chance Tuttle and Brooks Martin, Incarnate Word pitcher Alfredo Caballero, Nebraska-Omaha pitcher Joe Holtmeyer and Southwestern Oklahoma State freshman second baseman Michael Felton.


Oliver enters this week's NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament in Warrensburg, Mo., hitting .402 with 11 home runs, 57 RBI and 24 stolen bases.


The Wildcats will open tournament play Thursday at noon against St. Mary's.
