ABILENE -- ACU junior outfielder
Aaron Oliver, who led the Wildcats to the program's first 50-win season in 2010, has been voted the American Baseball Coaches' Association Player of the Year in the NCAA Division II South Central Region.
Oliver is joined on the first team by junior designated hitter Will Calhoun, sophomore starting pitcher
Aaron Lambrix and junior closer
Brad Rutherford. Junior starting pitcher
Zach Sneed was voted to the second team.
Oliver hit .405 with 14 home runs and 65 RBI as the Wildcats won the Lone Star Conference championship for the second straight season. ACU advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament before losing to Central Missouri in the if-necessary championship game. Oliver was voted to the all-tournament team.
Oliver was also the LSC Player of the Year and was the MVP of the LSC Baseball Championship Tournament in Abilene earlier this month.
Calhoun hit .413 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI and was voted first team all-LSC in his first season with the Wildcats.
Lambrix finished 10-0 on the season with a 4.37 ERA as he earned first team all-LSC honors as well. Lambrix was the winning pitcher Tuesday in ACU's 11-5 win over Central Missouri that forced the final championship game.
Rutherford had another solid season for the Wildcats, finishing 3-3 with 10 saves and a 2.63 ERA. Rutherford was a first team all-LSC selection and was voted to the LSC all-tournament team.
Sneed turned in a solid first campaign for the Wildcats, finishing 8-1 with a 4.78 ERA. He also earned all-LSC honors for the Wildcats.
