Wildcats roll by Aggies, 67-55

LAWTON, Okla. – Just two nights after giving up their highest point total of the season, the ACU Wildcats bounced back with one of their best defensive performances of the season as they knocked off Cameron, 67-55, in a Lone Star Conference men's basketball game at Aggie Gym.

The win pushes the Wildcats to 8-4 overall, while the Aggies drop to 10-5.  ACU will open LSC South Division action Tuesday at 8 p.m. when it hosts Tarleton State at Moody Coliseum.

In Thursday night's loss at Southwestern Oklahoma State, the Wildcats gave up 102 points and lost by 28 points.  But Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats gave up just 55 points in the win over Cameron.

The Aggies scored the first two points of Saturday's contest, but the Wildcats took the lead one minute into the game on a 3-pointer by Desmond Woodberry.  The Wildcats would not trail again in a game that saw the teams similar statistical lines.

The one area where the Wildcats had a decided advantage was at the free throw line where they attempted 32 free throws (making 20) compared to just 11 attempts (nine makes) for the Aggies.

ACU's defense held Cameron to 35 percent shooting from the field as the Aggies hit just 21 of 59 shots from the field, including only 4 of 17 from the 3-point arc.  The Wildcats, meanwhile, hit 43 percent of their shots (21 of 49), including 5 of 14 from 3-point range.

Sophomore Dosh Simms led the Wildcats with 13 points to go along with six points, while Marcus Washington had 10 points and Zach Williams added 10 points off the bench.
