ACU-SOSU in Early LSC Showdown

DURANT, Okla. – ACU travels to Oklahoma to avenge a Lone Star Conference series loss to Southeastern Oklahoma from last year. The Wildcats are 5-2 on the season and 4-2 in conference play while the Savage Storm are 5-4 and 3-0 in the LSC.

FIRST PITCH?
The Wildcats open an LSC series with Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday and continue with a double-header on Saturday. ACU is coming off a sweep of East Central and a mid-week non-conference win over St. Edward's to improve to 5-2 on the season. Senior Will Calhoun hit over .400 on the weekend and leads the Wildcats at .357 and 8 RBIs at the plate. Calhoun also picked up a win in relief against ECU and as the starter at St.Edward's.

 

LAST TIME OUT
ACU swept East Central including a walk-off bottom of the ninth win in the series finale on Saturday. Peter Goudeau hit his first homerun of the season and was outstanding in the field at second base taking away a couple Tiger hits.  

THE OPPONETS
SE OKLAHOMA – The Savage Storm is 5-4 on the season after dropping their home opener on Tuesday to Oklahoma Baptist. SOSU swept East Central on the second weekend of the season and took 2 of 3 from Henderson State last weekend.

 

WHO TO WATCH
Junior reliever Kris Carlson picked up two saves over the weekend against ECU and one against the Hilltoppers in 5.1 innings of work for ACU. Carlson only allowed two hits both coming in Austin as he kept his ERA at an even 1.00. He leads the Wildcats in strikeouts with 11 and opponetts are hitting .129 off him.
Sophomore Reed Watson has moved into the shortstop position seeing his average rise to .353 second best for ACU. His on base percentage is also tops for the club at .500.

UP NEXT
ACU will travel to San Antonio to make up their season opener that was canceled before returning home for a nine game homestand. The Wildcats will host a four game series with Texas A&M-International over the weekend before University of the Southwest comes to town on Sunday and Monday.
