ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The No. 13-ranked ACU men's tennis team split a double-header with two Division I teams Saturday falling to New Mexico, 7-0, before knocking of Northern Arizona, 6-1,on the campus of New Mexico University.
The Wildcats gave No. 60 New Mexico all they could handle on Saturday before finally falling to the Lobos at the Lobo Tennis Center.
Hans Hach playing No. 1 singles took Jadon Phillips to the end before falling, 7-5, 7-6. Hach would team with
Jake Hendrie to knock of the Lobos No. 1 doubles team of Phillips and Phil Anderson.
However, the Wildcats would come up short in all singles matches and the remaining doubles to fall, 7-0.
Facing off with Northern Arizona saw the Wildcats knock off their second Division I opponent of the 2011 season. ACU would fall in doubles to the Lumberjacks after taking No. 1 doubles, NAU would take No. 3 and No. 2 doubles, but not after
Eldad Campbell and
Nick Plum pushed the Lumberjack pair to tiebreak before falling, 9-8.
ACU would return the favor during singles in grand fashion sweeping all six matches. Only Hach and Plum would be pushed to a third set as the Wildcats took the other four singles matches in straight sets.
The Wildcats stand at 5-4 as the return to Abilene to host the ACU March Invite, Friday and Saturday. ACU will host Seminole State along with New Mexico Military Institute and Temple.
