Wildcats Falter, Finish 2nd

FORT WORTH – All four golfers recording scores for ACU finished in the top 20, however, it was not enough as the Wildcats faltered down the stretch to finish second at the UST Mamiya Texas Intercollegiate at the Hawks Creek Golf Club in Fort Worth on Monday.

The Wildcats took a one stroke lead after the first round, but some high numbers for ACU gave them a 299 finishing 10 strokes behind Oklahoma Christian. Oscar Stark led from start to finish for the Eagles finishing 7 under while teammate Axel Ochoa came in second at 4 under.

Alex Carpenter shot 2 over (74) on Tuesday to finish 3 under for the tournament and tied for fourth. Cyril Bouniol was 2 under for the tournament after a first round 67 had him in the hunt with Carpenter, but a second round 75 put him in a tie at sixth.

The other two Wildcats recording scores were Tyler Sheppard who followed a first round 74 up with a 73 to sit at 3 over for the tournament and a 13th place finish. Behind Sheppard was Kyle Dickerson who fired a 77 after shooting one over on Sunday tied for 19th giving ACU four top 20 finishers.

Adam Carpenter finished 48th with first round 78 and shot 77 on today's final round.

ACU's second place finish was four shots better than Division I participant Sam Houston State, followed by Southern Nazarene and Our Lady of the Lake rounding out the top five.

The Wildcats take a week off as spring break starts for students this week before returning to action to close out March at the Dallas Baptist Patriot Classic. The two-day tournament gets under way March 28 at the Golf Club of Dallas.
