DALLAS – After barely missing the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational over the weekend Alex Carpenter returned to collegiate action to lead the Dallas Baptist University Patriot Invitational by one stroke and pace the Wildcats to seven stroke lead as a team after Monday's first two rounds.
Carpenter went low in his morning first round shooting a 65 which was the low score on the day as players finished two rounds on Monday. In his afternoon second round Carpenter was able to hold off Jason Timmis of Cameron with a 68 in his second round as Timmis went, 69-65 and is in second place.
All five players sit in the top 30 including Cyril Bouniol tied at seventh, Tyler Sheppard tied at thirteenth, and Kyle Dickerson tied for nineteenth. Bouniol shot a 67 first round and 73 second round to finish at even par on Monday and seven strokes back of Carpenter.
Tyler Sheppard also shot below par in his first round Monday firing a 69 and a 73 in the afternoon sitting at 3 over. Kyle Dickerson was the fourth Wildcat to score in the top 20 also shot below par in Monday's morning round with a 69, but a 74 in his second round has him 4 over par for the tournament.
The final player in the field for ACU, Trey Sullivan fired an even par 70 to open the morning, but was consistent with the majority of the field as higher scores in round two prevailed. Sullivan finished with a 76 to sit at six over after two rounds.
ACU holds a commanding lead after Monday's first two rounds at 1 under as a team after a two round total of 559. Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma City sit one stroke apart at 5 over and 6 over in second and third place respectively. Oklahoma Christian is in fourth at +14 while Cameron rounds out the top five at +18.
Teams will finish the DBU Patriot Invite with Tuesday third and final round with morning tee times set from The Golf Club of Dallas.
