ABILENE – Delta State took a double-header sweep of ACU on Wednesday afternoon taking game one, 6-3 and game two, 6-1, in non-conference baseball action at Crutcher Scott Field.
The Wildcats fall to 17-13 on the season while the Statesmen improve to 19-11 with the sweep. ACU is back in Lone Star Conference action this weekend as they travel to Edmond, Oklahoma for a three game series with Central Oklahoma.
DSU jumped out on ACU in game one scoring twice in the top of the first inning. ACU would pull within a run when JR Roland doubled down the left field line scoring
Abe Williams.
However, the Statesmen starter, David Mooney would out duel ACU starter
Brady Rodriguez throwing a complete game to earn the win. ACU out-hit DSU, but Mooney would get a pair of double plays to help his cause.
Brady Rodriguez pitched six innings scattering six hits, but allowed six runs, four earned to pick up his second loss of the season.
Will Calhoun went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as only two starters for ACU did not record a hit.
Both teams would battle similar to game one through the first three innings as each starter lasted 3.1 innings. A two-run fourth give DSU all the runs they needed as they added a run in the sixth and two insurance runs in the seventh for the, 6-1 win.
ACU got their only run in the fourth as well on a Roland single scoring Calhoun who reached on a walk. The Wildcats struggled again to get timely hitting as they left seven runners on base in the game two loss.
