Carpenter Propels ACU to Title

Final Results

AUSTIN – Alex Carpenter won his second consecutive individual title and helped propel the Wildcat golf team to their first title of 2011 as they held off Barry University for a two stroke win on Tuesday at the St. Edward's Invitational at Grey Rock Golf Club.

Carpenter shot a 7 under, 65 on the final day to finish at 211 and hold off Daniel Stapff of Barry University who also shot a 65. Stapff finished 2 over 215 for the tournament while Carpenter finished 2 under for the tournament.

ACU placed all five golfers in the top 25 as their first two rounds made the difference on Tuesday's final round. Barry placed all five golfers in the top 16, but could never catch the Wildcats.

Tyler Sheppard started the day tied with Carpenter for third but a 3 over 74 gave him a sixth place finish. Cyril Bouniol shot a 1 over, 72 to finish tied for 11th place and was followed closely by Kyle Dickerson who finished in 16th.

Adam Carpenter shot a 77 on Tuesday after shooting consecutive 76 in Monday's first and second rounds.

St. Mary's finished third followed by a pair of Lone Star Conference schools Cameron in 4th and Central Oklahoma rounding out the top five.  

ACU is back in action next weekend in Fort Worth at the UST Mamiya Texas Intercollegiate at Hawks Creek Golf Club. The two-day tournament starts on Sunday with the final round on Monday.
