WEATHERFORD, Okla. – ACU gave up three runs in the bottom of the 11th inning Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats capped their worst season since 1995 with a 12-11 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State in Lone Star Conference baseball action.
The Wildcats finish their season at 24-23 overall and 16-17 in the LSC and will miss the conference tournament for the first time since 1997 and won't play for the conference championship for only the second time since 1998 (2004 was the other season).
Southwestern Oklahoma State, meanwhile, heads into next week's LSC Tournament in Abilene at 32-16 and 23-13.
Saturday's regular-season finale was tied at 9-9 going to the 11th inning when the Wildcats scored twice on
J.R. Roland's two-run single to drive in
Cameron Bankston and
Marcus Uechi.
Leading 11-9,
Chay Lytle came on to try and close out the game, but couldn't get it done. He gave up an RBI sacrifice fly to Edwin Mendoza and then a game-tying RBI double to Nelson Espinal. Two walks loaded the bases before Max Wheeler singled to drive in Espinal with the game-winning run.
Will Calhoun finished his ACU career with three hits and three RBI, while Roland finished the day 2 for 6 with three RBI.
