ABILENE – The most exciting game of the season was saved for the end of the 2011 Lone Star Conference Championships as Southeastern Oklahoma rode the arm of Heath Wyatt to an exciting 7-6 win over Cameron in a 14-inning thriller.
Wyatt finished the tournament off with 13 innings of relief to pick up his sixth win of the season in his longest outing of the season. He scattered five hits only allowing one run while striking out eight. Wyatt's outing earned him Tournament MVP honors in the win.
Justin Miller had an outstanding tournament going 5-for-7 in the second game and scored the game-winning run. Miller led off with a single and moved over to second on a wild pitch before Blake Gentry grounded out, advancing him to third.
With two outs, Eric Walker recorded the biggest hit of the tournament with a single up the middle that scored Miller and gave Southeastern its first NCAA berth since 2003.
The Savage Storm forced the “if-necessary game,” coming through the loser's bracket and pounding out a 10-4 win earlier Tuesday, handing Cameron its first loss of the tournament.
Cameron got an outstanding outing effort from Ricky Cramer, who pitched eight innings, but getting a no-decision. He struck out seven Savage Storm batters and walked four. Cramer was coming off a complete game in the tournament-opener for Cameron as he scattered 11 hits.
Southeastern Oklahoma improved to 34-17 on the season and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament. Cameron fell to 33-16 on the year and now will wait to see if it earns an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.
