Wildcats Fall In Four Sets At Tarleton State

ABILENE - The Abilene Christian volleyball team lost 3-1 to second-place Tarleton State Saturday afternoon at Wisdom Gym by scores of 25-13, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-22.
The victory kept the TexAnns a game behind Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference standings and improved their overall record to 18-5, while ACU fell to 9-14 overall and 5-8 vs. the league.
The Wildcats hit .162 as a team led by 18 kills from freshman Jennie Loerch and 11 from sophomore Sara Oxford. Freshman Corrie Reeder and Kalynne Allen tied with nine kills and combined for 3.5 of the team's six blocks.
The TexAnns also blocked six shots, but hit more than a 100 points better at .263 thanks to four players who had 10 or more kills: Stacie Murrah (15), Katie Covell (13), Nikki McNorton (12), and Jazmine Green (10).
Tarleton State setter Danielle Barker assisted on 51 kills and was part of two blocks, while Emily Klein dug out 23 Wildcat attacks.
By comparison, ACU's setter Sarah Siemens had 47 assists and 10 digs. Libero Madison Hoover had 19 digs, and junior Madelyn Robinett dealt three service aces.
The Wildcats return to Moody Coliseum this week for the start of a three-match homestand. ACU will battle Commerce Tuesday at 7 p.m., Kingsville Friday at 7 p.m., and Incarnate Word Saturday at 2 p.m.
