Wildcats move up 10 spots to No. 3 in latest coaches' poll

Golf World / Nike Coaches' Poll

NEW YORK – The ACU Wildcats' solid start to the 2012 fall golf season hasn't gone unnoticed as they have moved up 10 spots in the latest Golf World / Nike Golf Coaches' Poll, which was released Wednesday morning.

The Wildcats were ranked No. 13 in the pre-season poll, but after a dominating win in the season-opening Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate and a second-place finish last weekend at The Territory Classic in Duncan, Okla., the Wildcats moved up to No. 3 in the latest poll.

A victory at the Brickyard Crossing and a runner-up finish at the Flagler Col. Jennison Memorial propelled Barry into the top spot of the Golf World/Nike Golf men's Division II coaches' poll. The Buccaneers earned eight of 17 first-place votes to move up from the No. 2 position they occupied in the preseason poll.

Nova Southeastern, the defending NCAA D-II champion, claimed the No. 2 spot, earning three first-place votes. The Sharks were the preseason No. 2 in the Golf World/Nike Golf poll, and have finished second in their two tournaments to start the 2012-13 season.

ACU is at No. 3 in the poll (three first-place votes and 306 total points), followed by North Alabama at No. 4 and Western Washington at No. 5.  ACU's old Lone Star Conference rival, Central Oklahoma, is at No. 12 in the poll.  The Bronchos are the only Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association school in this week's poll.

The Wildcats will return to action Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 8-9) at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational in Amarillo.
