CANYON, Texas - Senior midfielder
Julie Coppedge was named All-Academic and First Team All-Conference by the Lone Star Conference Wednesday night at its annual awards banquet .
A native of Amarillo, Coppedge has made the conference's all-academic team the past three seasons and received an all-conference citation each of the last four. She was a second team honoree as a freshman in 2009, and first team selection in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Coppedge has started all 18 matches this year for the 8-9-1 Wildcats and ranks second to teammate
Andrea Carpenter with 11 points (five goals, one assist). Three of her goals were game-winners.
A two-time LSC Offensive Player of the Year, Carpenter leads ACU with 12 points, and as a key player during ACU's recent resurgence she was voted onto the all-conference second team along with junior defender
Whitley Lindholm.
Lindholm is a first time all-conference honoree.
Representing ACU on the conference's honorable mention list were veteran defenders
Brie Buschman and
Lexi Stirling and freshman
Lindsey Jones.
ACU's defense has pitched six shutouts this season and limited its opposition to 1.1 goals and 11.4 shots per match. The Wildcats' 1.10 goals-against average ranks second in the conference to Angelo State's 0.94.
Senior
Krysta Grimm joined Coppedge on the all-academic team for a second straight year. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native is majoring in communication disorders, while Coppedge is pursuing degrees in adversting and public relations.
The Wildcats begin their run at the Lone Star Conference Championship Thursday at 2:30 p.m. vs. fifth-seed Midwestern State. The winner will face top-seed and tournament host West Texas A&M in one of two semifinals to be played Friday night.
