Wildcats Play Host To Dallas Baptist, Look To Avenge Early-Season Loss

ABILENE – The Abilene Christian men's basketball team completes its three-game homestand Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game vs. Dallas Baptist. All kids 12 and under will be admitted for free, and great prizes, including free rounds of golf to Shady Oaks and Tin Cup Country Club, will be given away during the game.

The game will be carried live on 1280-AM KSLI with Grant Boone delivering the play-by-play.

The Wildcats went 2-0 this past weekend at their Whitten Inn Classic and can head into Lone Star Conference play at 3-1 with a victory over the Patriots, who bested them earlier this month, 79-72.

DBU, meanwhile, is winless since beating the Wildcats at The Burg Center, falling in overtime to both Texas A&M-Commerce, 91-87, and Wayland Baptist, 80-79. ACU still leads the all-time series, 13-10.

The Wildcats shot a combined 50.7 percent from the floor and averaged 88.0 points per game in their wins against York College and Sul Ross State, led by senior Steven Werner's double-double average of 19 points and 14.5 rebounds.

Senior Eric Lawton and junior Cornelius Cammock also were major contributors. Lawton netted a game-high 23 points in the win over York to finish with a 13.5 point average, and Cammock recorded 25 bench points and a .667 shooting percentage.

Werner, Lawton and Cammock all blocked three shots, while freshman Parker Wentz had the most steals with six.

Defensively, the Wildcats held the opposition to .380 shooting and won the rebounding war, 98-71. Opponents also shot well below 70 percent from the free-throw line and connected on just 32 percent of their 3-pointers.

The Patriots are led on both sides of the court by their 6-foot-8 senior Nick Fox, who is averaging 25.3 points and 11.0 rebounds through three games. The Colorado native is currently shooting better than 53 percent from the floor, including 44.4 percent from 3-point range. He's also just missed on three of 27 free-throw attempts.
