ABILENE – Abilene Christian senior midfielder
Julie Coppedge Wednesday was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Women's Soccer Third Team. She is the second Wildcat in as many years to receive this honor, joining teammate
Brie Buschman.
Academic All-America Committee members and current College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Board of Directors vote upon the national award, which is sponsored by Capital One.
A native of Amarillo, Coppedge is a two-time Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 selection majoring in advertising and public relations. She is on track to graduate from ACU in the spring of 2013.
Coppedge started all 19 matches this season and finished second on ACU with 11 points, scoring five goals (three game-winners) and providing one assist. The four-time all-conference and three-time all-region selection leaves the Wildcats as their all-time leader in assists with 17.
To be nominated for Academic All-America, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his or her current institution and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
ACU's season ended earlier this month at 8-10-1 following a first-round loss to Midwestern State at the Lone Star Conference Championship.
