ABILENE - The No. 6 Abilene Christian men's and women's tennis teams return to competition this weekend following a seven-day hiatus.
The men's team (4-4) makes its 2012 home debut with Friday's 3 p.m. match vs. New Mexico Military Institute, and then will play host to a doubleheader Saturday against Hardin-Simmons (9 a.m.) and Texas Permian-Basin (2 p.m.).
The women's team (5-1), meanwhile, will closely retrace the men's trip from a few weeks ago when it visits the cities of Murray and Richmond, Ky., and Nashville, Tenn. The Wildcats' opponents include Bethel and UT-Martin on Thursday, Southern Indiana and Lipscomb on Friday, and Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.
Sophomore
Hans Hach leads the Wildcat men with a 6-2 No. 1 singles record and 6-0 doubles mark all while competing with four different partners. Hach has so far experienced the most doubles success with freshman Guilerme Gesser and junior
Alfredo Desiati, as he is 2-0 with each teammate.
Senior
Nick Plum also is off to a good start in singles at 6-2, and has won four times at the No. 3 position. Freshman Borja Cortes and Desiati are each 4-4, while Gesser is 2-5.
In getting off to a 5-1 start, the women's team currently has two unbeaten singles players in
Micah Hermsdorf (6-0) and
Felicity Delgado (5-0), while the four remaining regulars all have just one defeat to their name. Five of Hermsdorf's six wins have come at No. 2 singles; all of Delgado's victories were at No. 6.
As a team, ACU's singles players have combined for a 31-5 record (.861).
Brittney Reed leads the Wildcats with six doubles wins, three of which have come with junior
Julia Mongin. Reed also has won once with
Laura Mongin, and twice with
Emily Conrad.
