Three Wildcats earn Lone Star Conference accolades


ALLEN – ACU sophomore guard Mack Lankford, sophomore forward Hillari Adam and senior forward Zach Williams all earned post-season accolades Tuesday night when they were announced at the banquet prior to the start of the Lone Star Conference Post-Season Tournament.

For the second straight season, Lankford was named first team all-LSC and was also named to the LSC women's all-academic team.  Adam – a first team academic all-district selection – was also voted to the all-academic team.  Meanwhile, Williams was voted honorable mention all-LSC on the men's side.

Lankford led the LSC in scoring at 21.5 points per game, more than five points per game better than runner-up Precious herein of Eastern New Mexico (16.1 ppg).  Lankford also finished second in steals (2.5 spy), fourth in 3-point field goals made per game (1.9 mpg), and seventh in assists (3.1 apg).

On the women's side, Cameron's Sabelle Diata claimed Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Angelo State's Haylee Oliver and MSU's Dianna Jones shared Freshman of the Year acclaim. A trio of players – CU's Julie Paunovic, Tarleton's Peyton Adamson and WT's Devin Griffin – were tabbed Newcomers of the Year.  MSU's Noel Johnson picked up Coach of the Year recognition.

With Diata on the All-LSC first team were Tarleton State's Shelby Adamson, Midwestern State's Savannah Carver, Abilene Christian's Mackenzie Lankford, Texas Woman's Jessica Hanna and West Texas A&M's Kenisha Harris.

On the men's side, Williams was the Wildcats' lone honoree, earning honorable mention league honors after averaging 11.9 ppg (17th in the league).

Midwestern State head coach Nelson Haggerty was named LSC Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm for the Mustangs, who went 23-3 overall.  Cameron's Milton Garner was named the men's Player of the Year after he led the LSC in scoring with a 19.7 average and in 3-pointers made, averaging 2.5 per game.

Joining Garner on the first team include Midwestern State's Michael Lloyd, Tarleton State's Fabian Wilson, Chris Johnson of Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico's Reggie Nelson.

The top defensive award was shared by Incarnate Word's Shaun Umeh and Midwestern State's Keonte Logan. West Texas A&M grabbed the two individual awards with Tez Dumars claiming Freshman of the Year and Donald Sims getting Newcomer of the Year.
