ACU's March To Greatness Continues As No. 6 Wildcats Beat Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Abilene Christian's sixth-ranked women's tennis team continued its sensational month of play with an 8-1 win over Division II Rockhurst Wednesday at the Loyola Park Tennis Courts. Winners of seven straight, the Wildcats' lone defeat was a 9-8 loss at No. 3 doubles that snapped a four-match shutout streak.

ACU's (15-2) performances have been nothing short of excellent since the calendar flipped to March as the Wildcats have dominated all levels of competition whether at home or on the road, inside or out. In addition to being in the midst of a season-best seven-match win streak, the Wildcats also have won 14 of 17 top-line singles matches and have lost only once all year at the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 positions. Meanwhile, their No. 5 position players are a combined 14-3.

ACU's doubles combinations, of which there have been many this season, have been equally dominating as evidenced by an overall record of 40-10. The Wildcats have lost only twice at No. 1, and four times apiece at No. 2 and 3.

ACU continued its winning patterns throughout this afternoon's match vs. the Hawks (3-1) as it responded to the loss at No. 3 doubles with an 8-0 win at No.1 from the 21st-ranked duo of Micah Hermsdorf and Hannah Kelley, and 8-5 triumph at No. 2 courtesy of Julia Mongin and Emily Conrad.

In singles competition, all six of ACU's wins were in straight sets.

No. 12 Micah Hermsdorf won her seventh straight decision and improved to 4-2 at the No. 1 line with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Maureen Rielley.

39th-ranked Brittney Reed matched Hermsdorf's win streak with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 over Karsyn Betts. Reed's win also was her 15th of the season, keeping her tied with Hermsdorf and Laura Mongin for the team lead.

Laura Mongin, however, owns the team's longest winning streak at 11 following her No. 3 line win vs. Alex Schelble, 6-4, 6-2.

Kelley won her season debut at No. 4, beating Erin Bales, 6-2, 6-0, and at No. 5, Madelyn Walker fought off Mary Lanaghen, 7-5, 7-5.

Felicity Delgado remains undefeated at 8-0 after beating Leigh-Anne Fourie at No. 6, 6-3, 6-2.

The Wildcats wrap their Spring Break series of matches Thursday with a dual at Lone Star Conference rival Cameron. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m.
