ABILENE - Abilene Christian junior second baseman
Chuck Duarte this week was voted onto the All-South Central Region second teams by the Daktronics sports information directors and National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA).
A Lone Star Conference first team honoree, Duarte hit a team-best .358 in his first year as a Wildcat with four home runs and 38 RBI. He had struck out only 11 times in 187 official at-bats and made just nine errors while playing both second base and shortstop.
Duarte lifted his batting average 81 points over the final two months of the season, during which he recorded a season-best 11 game winning streak and hit .571 in a four-game series vs. Cameron to win conference player of the week honors. He also blasted a walk-off home run against Kingsville for his first round-tripper of the season, and delivered another game-winning hit to cap a 2-1 win over Tarleton State.
Duarte graduated in 2009 from El Paso Franklin High School, and came to ACU after spending two seasons at Western Texas College.
