ABILENE - Abilene Christian graduates Jennie Hutt and Michael Rasor Wednesday were announced by the Lone Star Conference as recipients of its 2011-12 Scholar-Athlete Award.
The Lone Star Conference presents the award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution at the conclusion of the academic year. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each conference campus during the year.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sports and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.
A native of Dimmitt, Texas, Rasor was one of the Wildcats' top hurdlers over the last three seasons. Rasor placed third at the conference meet in the 110m-hurdles as a junior and sophomore, and then came in fifth this past spring. He also recorded a third-place time of 7.84 seconds in the 55m-hurdles at this winter's LSC Indoor Invitational.
A native of Papillion, Neb., Hutt received All-America and Academic All-America distinctions following an amazing senior year in which she moved into fourth place all-time at ACU with 1,543 kills. Hutt registered 518 kills during her final year as a Wildcat, and ripped a career-high 32 during a 3-2 home win on Sept. 13 vs. Incarnate Word.
Rasor and Hutt both graduated in May with degrees in mathematics and psychology, respectively.
