ABILENE – ACU assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator
Brandon Stover announced Tuesday that the Wildcats have added University of Oklahoma transfer Ty Taylor to the 2013 roster.
Taylor is a two-way player who will play any of the three outfield positions and is potentially one of the Wildcats' weekend starting pitchers.
"Ty is an impact two-way guy that immediately makes us better in the OF and on the mound," Stover said. "We expect big things from him the next 2 seasons and we are excited that he is in our program."
Taylor played in 14 games in the outfield last year for the Sooners, and also pitched in five games. The Sooners finished 42-25 and reached the South Carolina Super Regional before being swept out of the NCAA tournament by the Gamecocks.
Prior to his one season at OU, Taylor spent his freshman season (2011) at Weatherford College where he pitched and played in the outfield.
He finished the season with a 9-1 record and 2.23 ERA to go along with 61 strikeouts in 80 innings on the mound. He also played in 53 games in the outfield and hit .278 with 21 RBI. He was voted first team all-conference as a pitcher and honorable mention all-region. He ranked in the top five in the league in wins, innings pitched, opposing batting average, strikeouts, complete games, strikeouts per nine innings and strikeout-to-walk ratio.
He was a four-year letterwinner in high school in Cleburne and three-time all-district honoree. He compiled a 37-9 career record on the mound, including a 14-4 senior year when he posted a 0.80 ERA. He also hit .475 with 22 doubles and was voted the District 16-4A Most Valuable Player and a first team all-state.
Taylor joins pitchers Carter Hahn and Cody Willingham, infielders Seth Spivey and Kyle Guisti, and outfielder Heath Beasley. Cameron Bonifant is listed as an infielder/outfielder, and utility player Matt Patterson as first-year Wildcats in 2013.
