ACU Names Its September Student-Athletes Of The Month

ABILENE – Members of the ACU Athletics Department Wednesday selected Kalynne Allen, John David Baker, Julie Coppedge and Erik Forrister as the September Student-Athletes of the Month in recognition of their recent academic achievements. All four of these students were named to both the ACU Dean's Honor Roll and ACU Athletics Honor Roll 

The Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union sponsors the monthly award.
 
Kalynne Allen (Volleyball / Sr. / New Braunfels, Texas): Allen's academic accomplishments from a year ago include spots on the Lone Star Conference All-Academic and Capital One /CoSIDA Academic All-District first teams. She also made the conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll. For last season's NCAA qualifier team, Allen started 25 matches and contributed 264.0 points. Her 2011 season highs included 14 kills in a five-set victory over No. 16 Angelo State, and 21 digs at Incarnate Word. She is a social studies teaching major.
 
John David Baker (Football / Jr. / San Angelo, Texas): A member of the Lone Star Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll, Baker appeared in all 11 games during the 2011 season as the Wildcats' backup quarterback and holder on PATs and field goals. He saw the most extensive action of his ACU career in the regular-season finale on Nov. 12 when he finished out the Wildcats' 61-16 win over Incarnate Word. He is an exercise and sport science major. 
 
 • Julie Coppedge (Soccer / Sr. / Amarillo, Texas): Coppedge earned several major academic awards during her junior of 2011, including the title of Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year. She also made the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District first team and was named to the conference's All-Academic Team for the second straight year. Coppedge provided seven assists last season in being named first team all-conference and is currently ACU's career assist leader with 16. She is an advertising / public relations major.
 
Erik Forrister (Jr. / Llano, Texas): As a sophomore on the Wildcats' cross country team, Forrister was selected as the Lone Star Conference Men's Academic Runner of the Year and was tabbed to both its all-academic team and the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Forrister ran a season-best 8K of 26:25 at the 2011 conference championship meet in San Angelo. He is a physics major.
