Nick Richardson honored as LSC's Defensive Player of the Week

LSC Weekly Release

RICHARDSON – ACU sophomore defensive end Nick Richardson was honored by the Lone Star Conference office on Tuesday as the league's Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in last Saturday's season-opening win over McMurry.

Richardson led the then-10th-ranked Wildcats to a 51-0 shellacking of the War Hawks with a school record-tying six sacks.  Richardson had three sacks in the first quarter and then one in each of the next three quarters as he tied the school record originally set by James Henderson in ACU's 19-9 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Nov. 1, 1997.

Richardson finished the game with 10 tackles as the new-look ACU defense stymied an offense that was one of the best in NCAA Division III football in 2011.  McMurry – new to NCAA Division II football in 2012 – had just 301 total yards, including a meager 12 yards on the ground.

Richardson and the rest of the Wildcats will be back in action Saturday at 6 p.m. when they host Texas A&M-Kingsville in the LSC opener for both teams at Shotwell Stadium.
