DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Wednesday selected Abilene Christian junior third baseman Kyle Giusti as its NCAA Division II National Hitter of the Week.
Giusti – who on Monday was named the South Central Region's and Lone Star Conference's Player of the Week – was selected by the NCBWA as its national winner over seven other regional nominees. He is also only the second LSC player to earn this honor this season, joining Lee Neumann of Angelo State.
A native of Santa Fe, Texas, Giusti last week led the Wildcats in hitting (.550) as ACU went 4-2 at home vs. No. 1 Delta State and No. 24 Incarnate Word. He also ripped two extra-base hits, including a bases-loaded triple vs. the Statesmen, drove in seven runs and scored four times.
Giusti recorded at least one hit in each game and tied his season high with four hits in the Wildcats' 12-8 win in game one vs. the Cardinals. One game earlier, he matched his season high with four RBI as the Wildcats coasted to a 10-4 victory over the Statesmen.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
The Wildcats return to action Friday for the start of a four-game series at No. 11 Texas A&M-Kingsville.
