ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Christian University Athletics announced Wednesday that it has partnered with Daktronics to bring a state-of-the-art LED video scoreboard to Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium.
The board will be one of the largest in Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) athletics. ACU's board will measure 25 feet high by 64 feet wide for a total of 1,600 square feet. That board will be the fourth-largest on-campus video board in FCS football behind only Stephen F. Austin, Northern Iowa and Sam Houston State.
Overall, ACU's board will be the fifth-largest in FCS football with the largest board being at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn., where Tennessee State plays its home games. LP Field's primary tenant, however, is the Tennessee Titans of the NFL.
"Our student-athletes, alumni and fans deserve a gameday audio-visual experience that will make them want to come back game after game," said ACU director of athletics Lee De León. "The board that Daktronics will produce for us will provide that kind of environment each week, which will enhance our home-field advantage at Wildcat Stadium."
Fans will get their first glimpse at the new board and all it has to offer when the Wildcats play their first game in the new stadium on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, against Houston Baptist.
ACU joins a long list of NFL, Major League Baseball, NHL and NBA teams that use Daktronics audio-video boards, as well as some of the top universities in the country. Some of the universities that use Daktronics video boards at their football stadiums are the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, the University of Florida, the University of South Carolina, USC, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Oklahoma and Auburn University.
"We're excited to partner with ACU and provide a new, state-of-the-art LED video display system for Wildcat Stadium," said Matt Braegelmann, Daktronics sales representative on the project. "This new display will provide a great home field advantage while enhancing the fan experience at every game. We're looking forward to seeing everything come together and can't wait to watch the first game in 2017."
