Five Wildcats climb Southland rankings at Baylor

Results
WACO – 5K runners Carnley Graham and Sierra Bennett, javelin throwers Reagan Mabery and Natalie Jackson, and hurdler Riley Ellis all improved their standing on the Southland Conference performance list following their performances Saturday at Baylor's Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Clyde Hart Stadium.
Graham once again was one of the Wildcats' top finishers as she placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a season-best mark of 17 minutes, 16.18 seconds that is the sixth fastest among all Southland runners. Texas A&M freshman Kelsie Warren won the race in 16:57.48 followed by SMU senior Shanoah Souza (17:07.77) and TCU junior Nicole Hicks (17:11.83).
Bennett placed 16th with her PR of 18:39.22 that ranks her 16th in the Southland.
ACU's men had two distance runners place among the top 10 in the 1,500-meter run. Ryan Cleary was fifth in 3:57.51 – 4.02 seconds behind winner Matthew League of Baylor (3:53.03), while Reid Rivers was seventh in the 20-man field in 3:59.92.
Cleary's finish matched Josh Hunter for the highest showing on the men's side as the discus thrower also placed fifth with his launch of 51.76 meters (169 feet-10 inches). Texas A&M senior Jeff Bartlett won the discus with an effort of 58.65m (192-05) that broke the previous stadium record of ACU's Kai Schmidt (57.47m) from two weeks ago. Texas sophomore Brian Peterson (55.46m / 181-11) was the distant runner-up to Bartlett.
Elsewhere in the throws, Mabery and Jackson finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the javelin while improving their individual conference rankings. Mabery tossed the javelin a PR distance of 40.04m (131-04) and now owns the fifth-best conference mark, and Jackson moved into 10th with her lifetime best of 38.01m (124-08).
Additional PRs today were recorded by Jessica King in the 100m (12.31), John Baker in the 5K (16:37.23), Irene Akwitti in the 100m hurdles (15.20) and Ellis in the 110m hurdles. Ellis' time of 16.40 moved him into the conference's top 20.
Saturday's meet featured a large number schools, including Air Force, Angelo State, Baylor, Cal State-Fullerton, George Mason, Lamar, Miami, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-CC, TCU and Texas Tech.
The Wildcats return to action next Thursday, April 27 for the Wildcat Open. Events begin at 3 p.m.
