ABILENE – Abilene Christian fell behind 6-1 but got the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning before falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, 6-3.
The Wildcats trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second when Avery Miloch launched a home run to right field.
The Islanders tacked on two more runs in the fourth and a run each in the fifth and sixth to build a 6-1 cushion.
Mercedes Eichelberger led off the bottom of the seventh with an infield single and Miranda Lista walked. Shaylee Alani reached on an error with Listsa advancing to third and Eichelberger scoring to trim the TAMUCC lead to 6-2.
Olivia Taylor produced an RBI fielder's choice to score Lista and Miloch singled to right to get the potential tying run to the plate, but the Islanders were able to stop the rally there.
ACU had five hits in the game, led by MIloch with a home run and a single.
Talia Nielsen (2-1) took her first loss of the season despite striking out four batters in her 3.1 innings of work.
The Wildcats say goodbye to Poly Wells Field for more than a month, starting a four-tournament, 21-game road swing next weekend at the UTSA Tournament where they will take on Lamar, Texas-San Antonio, South Dakota State and Corpus Christi.
