ARLINGTON - Day Two got started well with the completion of the 2 nd day of the women's heptathlon.
Natalie Poe entered the final event of the day in 5 th place, but moved up to 3rd place with an outstanding final event – the 800. Natalie scored a terrific personal best (PB) of 4,997, just a few fractions under the 5,000-point heptathlon barrier. Literally just behind her, her teammate
Nele Huth finished in 4 th with 4,992 points on her first-ever outdoor
heptathlon.
Following soon after,
Canaan Fairley won the men's decathlon in the most stirring way possible. On Day 2, Canaan had PB's in 4 events (8 total PB's in the decathlon) – discus throw (127-8/38.93); pole vault (13-11.75/4.26); javelin (149-8/45.63); and the 1500 (4:24.47 and the best time in the competition). And, Canaan ran the fastest time in the 110 hurdles (14.21). After Canaan had led the competition from the very first event, he lost that lead to Casey Tow from GCU on the 9 th event, by a tiny 7-point margin. The final event was a 2-person duel as Canaan and Tow were never more than a meter apart and traded the lead multiple times. Coming off the final curve, Canaan had one last burst and pulled away over the final 100 meters and scored enough points to take back the lead. His total of 7,566 points was a huge 650 point improvement over his previous PB.
Redshirt freshman
Sterling Glenn placed 3 rd in the shot put with a throw of 45-9.75/13.96, with ACU picking up another medal finish.
In prelim events, ACU put athletes into the finals in every event completed.

Hana Banks ran the 5 th fastest time in the 100 hurdles with a PB time of 13.80;

Just after the 800 prelims finished, the meet went into a prolonged weather delay with the 400 and 100 prelims yet to run and the finals in the steeplechase. Also, the men's shot put was underway. It will be determined later tonight if the events run tonight or the events pick up in the morning.
