ABILENE - Breanna Davis scored a go-ahead layup with 14 seconds remaining as Abilene Christian women's basketball pulled out a 58-57 win over Utah Valley at Moody Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. Davis scored four points in the final 45 seconds while Aimee Flippen dropped a career-best 10 points.
The Wildcats picked up their 250th win in the program's Division I era and look ahead to their final game of the season at Moody Coliseum versus California Baptist at 6 p.m. Thursday. ACU will celebrate Senior Day and honor Davis and graduate assistant Hannah Page with a pregame ceremony.
The Wildcats faced a 27-21 halftime deficit before responding with a 23-16 third quarter to take a one-point lead into the final period. They connected on 10 of 12 field goal tries in the third quarter, including three of five three-pointers. ACU only led by as much as four in the fourth quarter as the Wolverines retook the lead at 55-54 with 51 seconds left.
Davis hit her first of two clutch layups with 43 seconds to play to put ACU back in front, 56-55. Utah Valley went back to work, draining a layup of its own to move ahead, 57-56, with 20 seconds on the clock. Davis wasted little time with the ball back in her hands, maneuvering around the defense for what would become the game-winning layup with 14 seconds to go.
The Wildcats fended off a final three-point attempt by the Wolverines as the clock expired to seal the win. They knocked down 23 of 49 field goal attempts at a .469 clip, their top field goal percentage since hitting 51.6% of their shots versus Southern Utah on Jan. 17. ACU collected 11 offensive rebounds and turned them into 10 points while forcing 19 turnovers.
Flippen posted a career game with five field goals on six attempts and a pair of blocks in a season-high 17 minutes. Six of her points came in the first half as she brought down three rebounds. Payton Hull followed with 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals while playing the entire 40 minutes.
Davis, Erin Woodson and Natalia Chavez registered eight points apiece, with Davis a perfect 3 of 3 from the field. Woodson neared a double-double with nine rebounds while matching her career high with six assists for the second game in a row.
Jazmyn Stone scored seven points and was a perfect 2 of 2 from beyond the arc. Her pair of three-pointers and five rebounds are both season highs. Emma Troxell added six points with a couple of steals.
