BOULDER, Colo. - The Abilene Christian men's basketball team lifts the lid on its 2026-27 season by playing the Colorado Buffaloes of the Big 12 on Monday night. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN+, and on the ACU Sports Network with Grant Boone
The Wildcats are coming off another season as one of the NCAA's top defensive teams. ACU ranked 3rd nationally in turnovers forced per game (16.4) and 5th in steals per game (9.7).
Fans will be consulting the roster early on in the season to get acquainted with 11 new players, including five who have college experience. Noah Bolanga, who transferred from former conference bunkmate Utah Tech, was voted to the Preseason All-United Athletic Conference Team, however the NCAA has ruled he is currently ineligible to play.
The Wildcats were picked 7th out of nine teams in the UAC Preseason Coaches Poll, but there is plenty of unknown for nearly every squad. Only three members (ACU, Tarleton State and UT Arlington)Â remain from last season's Western Athletic Conference, which rebranded on July 1 to the UAC. Five teams moved from the ASUN to the UAC: Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama and West Georgia. Little Rock came over from the Ohio Valley Conference.
ACU has a heavy international flavor with three players coming directly from playing overseas club basketball (Gus Salem, Lebanon; Willan Marie-Anais, France; Xabi Lopez, Spain). Four other players were most recently playing at U.S. colleges, but are foreign-born (Victor Yimga Moukouri, France; TImeo Pons, France; Noah Bolanga, France; Evan Boisdur, Guadeloupe).
Brette Tanner begins his sixth season as ACU's head coach, and his 14th with the program overall. Only five head coaches have had longer tenures than Tanner.
Colorado went 17-16 last season, including a 7-11 mark in the Big 12, and lost its first game of the College Basketball Crown, a postseason event in Las Vegas, Nev., to Oklahoma.
The Wildcats and Buffaloes have never met ont he hardwood before. Monday will be ACU's third game in the state of Colorado as a Division I program with previous trips to Air Force (Dec. 6, 2017, 62-58 win) and Colorado State (Nov. 24, 2015, 108-100 loss in double overtime).
The first chance to see the Cats in Abilene is Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. when the Lamar Cardinals come to Moody Coliseum.
Season packages, mini plans and single-game tickets are all on sale now. Premium upgrades, including parking steps from the entrance, are available.
